Graycor Construction Company recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation of the Short Pump Town Center, a 1.3-million-square-foot open-air mall in Richmond, Virginia for Forest City. As the top-performing mall in the Richmond area, the makeover will continue to elevate Short Pump’s drawing power to attract new and exciting upscale retailers.
The most notable feature of the project is the new pedestrian bridge spanning the Main Plaza connecting to walkways and a new centrally located glass elevator enhancing shopper accessibility to upper and lower level retailers and restaurants. Other elements adding to the amenities of the mall include redesigned fountains, new gathering spaces with seats under heated pavilions, a new children’s play village and outdoor play area, additional landscaping, fireplace and updated restrooms.
The mall remained open for business during its regular hours throughout construction which continued around the clock. Graycor engaged its “live environment” approach, a planning process of communication and collaboration, that is so critical to ensuring projects with ongoing operations are completed safely and with the highest quality standards.
“Graycor is honored to have been a part of the Short Pump renovation project for Forest City”, said Steve Oldendorf, Senior Project Manager at Graycor Construction Company. “Working in a live mall environment has its challenges, however, our team had the skill set and experience necessary to complete the project successfully just before the holidays.”
